I decided to read “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay” by Michael Chabon, on this trip because Laura said it was one of her favorites. However, I had no idea it would be relevant to my experience in Europe to a tee. The main character in the book, Joseph Kavalier, is a young Jewish man who escapes to America from Prague during World War II. He describes living in the Jewish quarter, which was really interesting to picture as Meryl toured me around it last week. He talks about his family being deported to Terazin, a concentration camp I will visit this Tuesday. The character even describes seeing the film, “Citizen Kane” and meeting its director, Orson Welles, which I studied and watched in my film history course here. Reading the book while studying a great deal about European history and the World War II era has been such a great picture of what I’m learning.
I highly recommend this book in general!
